massive, cup-shaped, thick walls, ovoid to round cup openings, rounded margins, dimensions: ~3-4.5 cm (h), 3-6 cm (w), 4-5 cm (d), base ~3-4 cm (w), deep sea fauna: 383-407 m (depth). | dark brown exterior, lighter brown interior i | not visible. | hard, stony, brittle. | sandpaper-like. | dense, dicranoclone desmas, typically centrotylote microxeas. | smooth dichotriaenes perpendicular to surface, crust of rhabd-like microscleres. | dichotriaenes: smooth, straight tips, 162-209 (l) _ 452-606 (d, cladome) um, dicranoclone desmas: bearing mushroom-shaped tubercles, tubercles covered with small, low, densely packed tubercles, tubercles not always clearly visible, young desmas smooth or bear smooth tubercles, tubercles more numerous at articulation points, articulation of desmas head to shoulder or terminal, not very strong. | microxeas: microspinose, sometimes centrotylote, sometimes curved, 82.6-111 _ 2.4-3.4 um, spirasters: 2 classes, 1, rhabd-like, 12.5-17.1 _ 3.5-7.1 um, 2, with slender, pointed rays, ~14.7-20.5 _ 10.1-12.9 um. |
