Morphological description (show/hide)
Lobed fan, subrasiform, thick lamellae, convoluted margins, short stalk. | Orange, orange-brown alive. | Small, inner face of fan. | Firm, stiff, compressible. | Polymastia-like conulose surface of low rounded conules, with radiating ridges each side (lattercollapia in air), plate-like. | No obvious axial compression, but compartments of spicule and fibre bundles run throughout lamellae, choan. oxeas run longitudinally through lamellae, sparse fibres, sparsely echinated by acanthostyles, heavy collagen in mesohyl. | Occasional very large subect. spicules protruding (sparse), remainder erect palisade (nearly continous) of ect. oxeas, surrounding large subectosome, heavy ect. collagen. | Long subect. styles (>4000 x ~50 um). Echinating acanthostyles (~150 x 4 um). Choan. oxeas (~900 x 20 um). Ectosomal oxeas (~600 x 10 um).(Light, even spination, slightly rounded tip, slightly heavier spines at tip). | nil. |
