Morphological description (show/hide)
massive, globular | white | white | uniporal, grouped | flat, smooth | Radial skeleton near the surface, then confused. Triaenes are disposed radially near the surface. Oxyasters can be found throughout the choanosome. | Ectocortex of spherasters, endocortex of sterrasters. Cortex is 0.5-0.65 mm thick. | (min-average-max, N=30 unless otherwise stated) (a) oxeas I, straight or bent, length: 2125-3166-3575 µm; width: 50-58-75 µm. (N=20) (b) oxeas II, straight or bent, sometimes modified to styles, sometimes slightly centrotylote, 250-302-350 µm long, 6.5-8-10 µm thick. (c) dichotriaenes, rhabdome length: 3000-3200-3480 µm (N=3); width: 50-80-100 µm (N=11); protoclade: 120-194-250 µm long; deuteroclade: 40-196-300 µm long. (d) anatriaenes, rhabdome length: 2250-2947-3440 (N=11); width: 10-19-30 µm; clad length: 60-122-160 µm. no mesoprotriaenes found. | (min-average-max, N=30) (e) sterrasters, spherical, 66-79-90 µm in diameter. (f) strongylasters, rough actines, 4.5-6-10 µm in diameter. (h) oxyasters, rough actines, diameter: 10-15-22 µm. |

On the in situ picture, one can see shallow oscular areas. The cortex section was made in that part of the sponge. |
